Tips for Writing Compelling Legal Content for Your Website

Regularly adding new content to your website is not only important in terms of SEO, but it is also crucial to building an audience and, ultimately, converting some of that audience into new clients. However, you can’t simply just add new content; you have to make sure that the content is compelling and well written so it is effective at capturing your target audience.

Whether you are starting to build a new website for your firm or are revamping your firm’s existing website, the following tips can help you develop meaningful, potent legal content that may ultimately help you capture new clients:

  • Make sure that each page, as well as the overall navigation, is well organized – Organization is the driving force for both a particular page of content and for the overall structure of your website. When it comes to the page level, however, some of the key ways that you can ensure a page is organized around a specific topic are to include a few clearly titled subheadings and to use bullet points for lists (and to break up otherwise beefy paragraphs).

While these features will help keep a page organized around a specific topic, they will also help you optimize a page so it has the best chances of being highly ranked in search engines.

  • Use conversational language – Having a conversation tone in your content will make it easy to read, which will be far more appealing to users than cold, formal language (like the language and tone of academia). Additionally, since the latest changes to Google algorithms are now favoring content that is written with such informal language, structuring your content with it can only help boost your pages’ (and website’s) SEO.
  • Use statistics when possible – Statistics are appealing to users because they tend to make general notions very concrete. They also serve as good hooks for users, drawing them into to read a full page. It’s important to note that, when using statistics, be sure to cite the source (and that the source you are citing is credible).
  • Include a well written, well designed call to action – The point of having a website for your law firm is to let Internet users know you exist, what your practice is and how you are the best firm to handle their important legal matters. For each page of content, you want to be sure that you have a call-to-action that compels the user to contact your firm and ultimately converts him or her into a new client.
