Tips on How to Improve Your Law Firms Website Calls-to-Action (Part 1)
The call-to-action (CTA) on your website is one of the most important elements when it comes to design and content because it can either convert Internet users into customers or clients – or it can drive them away. While the specific call-to-action for users will vary according to the business or firm (for example, the CTA for retailers is generally to buy a product, and for law firms, it usually involves having users contact the firm to set up a free initial consult), so too can the design of the CTA – as it can take the form of buttons, images, a form with fields or even simply text.
Regardless of the specific call-to-action that is most appropriate for your business and the type of design that you want the CTA to take, the following are some insider tips regarding how to develop and refine these CTA so that they are both compelling and as effective as possible:
- Place the CTA in a prominent location on the page – Because the goal of the CTA is to grab the users’ attention and get them to respond to it, consider placing above the “fold” of the page (with the fold marking the point at which users have to start scrolling down). In general, it’s a good idea to place the CTA in the same place on every page and in a place that the eye is readily attracted to, such as at the top of the page or at the top right-hand side of the page.
If CTAs are placed at the bottom of pages and users have to scroll down to even find them, you run the risk of missing a whole group of users who may never even scroll down the page.
- Pick a contrasting, eye-catching color for the CTA – Because you want the CTA to stand out make sure that the color of the button or the background area supporting the text or form fields sharply contrasts the background color of your standard pages (for example, if your standard pages are a light blue, consider making your CTAs orange or yellow). Again, the point is to capture users’ attention and get them to read and respond to the CTA.
