4 Ways to Determine Which Social Media Networks to Use for Your Law Firm

Social media is an effective way to connect with new potential clients and grow your business’ online presence. If, however, social media marketing isn’t currently part of your business’ internet marketing strategy, knowing where to start and just which social media outlets you should use can be confusing.

How to Pick the Right Social Media Networks

Here are four steps you can take to figure out which social media networks you should be using for the most engagement, our internet marketing professionals explain.
Here are four steps you can take to figure out which social media networks you should be using for the most engagement, our internet marketing professionals explain.

To help you pick the right networks so that you can make the most of your social media marketing efforts, here’s what you can do.

1 – Ask your clients.

This may seem overly obvious, but it’s a logical place to start. Ask your current and/or prospective clients:

  • Which social media networks they are using
  • Whether they have different preferences for social media networks for business versus personal use

While you can do this formally through surveys, including online anonymous surveys, it’s also a good idea to ask people in person, via email or over the phone if conducting a more formal survey is not an option/feasible.

2 – Look at your “share” data.

If you already have a blog on your website, check out your share counts to see just how and where your audience/potential clients are currently sharing your content. This can reveal which networks you may want to focus more of your attention on, as there may already be an audience for your business/content there.

3 – Look at your competitors’ “share” data.

Do you know how and where your competitor’s content is being shared? If not – and if you don’t have much viable share data for your own content, then doing this little bit of extra research can reveal which social media networks would be the best places to start focusing your internet marketing efforts.

4 – Find out where your industry has a presence.

Which social media networks are your colleagues and competitors already using? Where does your industry already have a presence? If you don’t already have a presence in these same networks, then make sure you do soon, as you’ll want to be visible in the same social media spaces where your industry is already prominent.

The Next Steps…

Once you’ve narrowed down your list to the top three or four networks to use:

  • Develop profiles for your business on these networks.
  • Create a social media marketing plan.
  • Know when to get professional help carrying out your plan.
